CHICAGO MARATHON, SUNDAY 8 OCT 2017

The Chicago Marathon is a major marathon held yearly in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Alongside the Boston, New York, London, Berlin, and Tokyo Marathons, it is one of the six World Marathon Majors. Thus, it is also an IAAF Gold Label race. The Chicago Marathon is the fourth-largest race by number of finishers worldwide.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon has announced that it will start accepting runner applications for the 2017 event on Tuesday, Oct. 25, Individuals unable to meet the criteria for a guaranteed entry may apply through the non-guaranteed entry drawing that will open on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Runners will have until Tuesday, Nov. 29 to apply for either a guaranteed or non-guaranteed entry. The cost of an entry is $195 for U.S. residents and $220 for those residing outside of the U.S.


Five options are available for guaranteed entry into the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon:

• Time qualifiers who have run a sub-3:15:00 certified marathon (men) or a sub- 3:45:00 certified marathon (women) since January 1, 2015.
• Legacy finishers who have completed the Chicago Marathon five or more times within the last 10 years.
• Runners who deferred their 2016 entry to the 2017 race.
• Charity runners who are fundraising for an official charity as part of the Chicago Marathon Charity Program.
• International runners (non-U.S.) participating in the International Tour Group Program. Non-guaranteed entry Runners who do not qualify for a guaranteed entry can apply for the non-guaranteed entry drawing.

The route begins and ends in Grant Park, passing near Wrigleyville and Sox Park along the way. Streets for the course will be closed for most of the morning. See the map for when streets will reopen, on a rolling basis.

The course: The Chicago Marathon has a fast, flat course that is home to four World Records, several national records and countless personal bests. There is only one slight incline in the final mile of the course on Roosevelt Road. (Note: The route is subject to change.)

Start times: Wheelchair race begins at 7:20 a.m. Handcycle start at 7:22 a.m. Athletes with disabilities start at 7:23 a.m. Two waves of runners start at 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Duration: The course is open for 6 hours, 30 minutes. Registrants must be capable of completing the full distance, start line to finish line, within this time requirement (approximately 15 minutes per mile). Participant net times greater than the event time requirement will not be recognized as official.
